How do I hook up a light in the ceiling box that has 3 sets of wire.White black and ground attached outlet?
There was a light fixture in place, When changing the fixture for the light I miss wired. There are three sets of wires, one from the power source, one from the switch and one from the outlet. Each are white, black and ground. Whats the correct connection? I've tried so many, when I thought it was working I hooked it all together and turned the power on and it blew the circut again.
Wooo... There is some really bad advise given here. Here is the basics. You have power coming from the panel to the fixture box and should be hot. Get a meter and use it. The way it was wired before was that this power was to go on through to the switch so it would have power. The light switch is simply an interrupter of power to the light fixture. So it sounds like the original electrician that wired this used a regular piece of Romex for the switch leg. The white and black may be doing the same thing. One taking the power to the switch and the other taking it back to the fixture. So identify the switch wiring, and put one to the power source and the other to the black on the fixture. Black from power source to black from plug. All the whites together, and all the bare/greens together. If that is too confusing, find an electrician. I get these all the time. People freak out when they see a white and black hooked together when it is only the switch leg. An electrician knows this and can fix it quickly. Good luck.
