What kind of disorder did this man in a wheelchair have?
I saw him in a mall, he was confined to a wheelchair. Everything from his waist up looked fine... he did not appear to have any mental disorder, but his legs were as thin as his leg bones... literally, his skin seemed to contour his leg bone, it was that thin. I'm assuming that is why he was confined to a wheelchair, as his legs would be too brittle and weak to support his weight. His upper section was quite muscular, it's just his legs.
It sounds like the man you saw was paraplegic.
Paraplegia is caused by damage to the spinal cord so messages can't get from the brain past the damage, or from the limbs past the damage and to the brain.
If he has complete paraplegia the man will be unable to feel or move his legs but will have absolutely no impairment in his arms or in his head (intelligence, emotions etc).
It is possible to break your back at almost any point and therefore to get a spinal cord injury at any level. A higher level injury would result in a greater part of the person's body being affected by the paralysis. It is called paraplegia if the legs and trunk (body) are affected but the arms are unaffected. If the damage is high enough that the arms are also affected (even if only a little) the condition is known as tetraplegia or quadraplegia.
