2000 Ford Focus Trunk and seat problems?
I just purchased a 2000 Ford Focus used of course... I can not open the trunk with the key, nor will the button on the inside dash work. When I push the button I hear a clicking sound that comes from around the glove box area but I can't seem to pinpoint it. Also, all three latches that are on the backseat to fold the seats down are broken. Anyone have any idea how I can fix either problem myself? I have heard the trunk might be a problem with the Central locking module... I am trying to avoid any costs I can! Thank you for your help!
Well seems your seat latch had a recall on it. See URL below. Call a Ford dealer and find out if you can get your vehicle fixed under the recall even though you are not the original owner. If you do, then read the recalls and get ALL the stuff done. Its free now.
You might be screwed on the trunk part though. Cuz if the mechanish were frozen, maybe preventing from you opening with a key then you have to do Plan A.
Plan A. You would have to take the back seat off, crawl thru into the trunk space if you could, then with a flashlight and friend outside attemplt to open the trunk up.
Plan B. Otherwise, do like I did mine. Get a screwdriver and ram the sucker in the key and take the lock out. But be careful. Once it is out you can then pop it open and see what is wrong. You can replace it, just buy another one. Say you find the module is bad, then check with ebay or online for another one. I usually find them cheaper in the internet than the auto stores.
PS. I presume you have checked your fuzes. You need a flashlight and pliers. Usually the inside fusebox, will have notations like tnk or trunk for the fuse for the electrical truck switch. If you have too, you can pull out the fuses one by one and see if any are blown out. Some cars also have a fuse box under the hood in the engine on the side. Easy to check though.
