List of Self Defense Martial Arts? Also any information about Taekwondo greatly appreciated...?
Ok well im thinking about taking taekwondo.I heard it's not good for self defense (though i still plan on taking it because i like watching and would like to learn it)so was wondering what kind of martial arts are good for self defense? If anyone knows a list of martial arts that are good for self defense or a site i could go to and read up on i'd appreciate it.Also if you know anything about Taekwondo things that would help in learning or important information that i would need to know i'd appreciate that alot.
Thanks in advance =)
tkd isn't good for self defense in the way that high kicks and spinning kicks don't neccessarily work well on the streets.. it takes many years and a world of sparring to be come sufficient enough to be able to adapt tkd into self defense on the street..
as for a great self defense Martial Art.. combative kickboxing/Muay Thai, boxing, grappling or a combination of the three, mma style is excellent for self defense: http://www.ikickbox.com/
it teaches you how to use your hands and feet to inflict serious damage, as long as the school focuses on reality based training...
there are certain systems that focus entirely on self defense, that is evasion/survival/escape.. such as Krav Maga: http://www.kravmaga.com/
and paul vunak's PFS system (progressive fighting system): http://www.fighting.net/index.php
hope these links help give you a better understanding...
good luck!
