Hi, I train in Ninjutsu. if i were to train outside with my ninja-to (sword) would i get arrested?
I live in the UK and just wanted to know what the law was about this subject. Seeing as im not going to go around killing people and just want to do this for training purposes only.
The police never liked it when we practiced with swords in the parks here in the U.S.
We had numerous occasions when numerous cops charged us with weapons drawn, even though my teacher was well known and was highly competent - no injuries during sword practice.
Everything was nice and legal, though perhaps a bit brazen.
My teacher stopped accepting police officers as students because of this and mysteriously began receiving a hell of a lot of traffic citations after they were cut off.
Of course five officers with weapons drawn were required to issue a ticket for a tail light being out.
(Sigh...)
edit: Some garage teachers/students have nowhere else to practice if the membership fees and particular dogmas of the local dojo's are an issue. If the police see you swinging swords in an alley you are far more likely to get harassed with no recourse.
It's far safer to do it with witnesses around.
The limelight was not the goal.
Sad, but true.
