Can these support my established bacteria?
My 72 gallon just completed its fishless cycle yesterday. I went to the store today to buy some fish. My goal was 5 Yellow Tail Acei to start, but they only had 3 left so I just got them. They are pretty tiny, slightly larger than a full grown tetra. Will these three fish be able to support the established bacteria until I can get back to the LFS ? I am going to try and buy 2 more Acei and 5 labs tomorrow.
You should be fine.
If you left just three fish in there for weeks then the cycle bacteria would gradually die off to a level that suited the number of fish.
Then you would need to take your time building up fish numbers, but bacteria multiply quickly in an established filter.
Overnight you should see little effect, as long as the filter is running and the bacteria have oxygen and some food.
