Are sleeves acceptable for rugby braces?
I tore my MCL and PCL about 4 months ago. i went through physical therapy and am now doing my own rehab at my gym. i am running fine now with only minor pain when the weather is bad. I recently received a custom fitted knee brace that i want to use as a safety precaution when i ski and snowboard.
i was also thinking about using it when i play rugby. the season starts in May which gives me about 3 more months to get back to 100% (or as close as i can come).
the orthotist who gave me the brace said that the brace is legal for rugby, i just have to wear a sleeve over it when i play. i was just wondering if anyone had any information regarding this. i know that you cannot wear braces with screws, buckles, straps, etc., but do those rules still apply if i have a sleeve that completely covers the brace?
p.s. i understand that if i don't feel 100% then i shouldn't be playing yet, but still i want to know if what the orthotist said is legit.
I do not think they are legal as they could cause an injury, your best bet would be to ask a qualified ref, most Rugby clubs has or knows at least one.........he would then be able to tell you or advise on what kind of sleeve would be needed!
