I have a problem with shin splints and burning calves?
After i run for just a short bit my calves start to burn really bad!! Also i have shin splints... what can i do to fix this?
Before your next run, stand with your back against a wall, heels against the wall. now put one foot in front of the other. This is the distance from the wall that your feet should be for the exercise. Now with both feet out a foot's length in front of you (feet together, NOT shoulder width apart), back, hips, and shoulders against the wall still, pushing your heels into the ground, slowly raise your toes up and down. Do about 10 of these, then shake out your legs for a couple seconds, and do 10 more. Do this 3 times. This will prevent shin splints.
For your calves, turn to face the wall, put your forearms (from the elbow to finger tips) against the wall, and put your legs into a lunge position (not TOO deep, but just enough to feel the stretch on the straightened lunged leg). Hold this position for about 30 seconds, then switch legs. Shake your legs out, and do this twice more for a total of 3 times. This will prevent aching calves.
Do these stretches EVERYTIME before you run or do any kind of cardio, and you should be good
