Is Sanshou a good Martial Art for Self Defence?
Is Sanshou good martial art for self defence? Or would i be better off learning MMA or a Boxing/BJJ combination?
it really depends. a poor style with a great instructor is better then a great style with a poor instructor, that said it depends on the instructor.
now that aside because everybody knows that and its not relevant to your question.
if you are trying to train street Self Defense, i would go with sanshou. they are amazing strikers, kickers, and they teach sweeps and throws. the reason this would be better for the street is that you don't want to get into the habit of going to the ground. if you did then you have to deal with broken glass, second opponents, and weapons. it's not a good place for the street.
if your trying to get into the whole ufc/mma thing then you should go into mma. if you want to do ring fighting you should go into mma. but you can also mix sanshou and bjj. here is a good fight http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ipWNbhcsBL4 its cung le, he's to my knowledge and undefeated fighter and uses sanshou when he fights.
