How long will it take to advance belts and ranks in Okinawa Traditional Karate?
I just recently began Okinawa Traditional Karate as a 17 year old. I do want to stick with this for a long time. Honestly not to sound arrogant or cocky but I am very athletic and compete in soccer at the highest level. I learn at a very fast pace and I am training twice a week for about an hour and a half to two hours everytime I train. How long will it take to learn each kata and how long does it take to achieve the higher ranks and belt. Like how long does it take to go from white to the next one to the next one. Also, when do bo's and sai's and other weapons become part of my training? Also, what is the order of belts in Okinawa. Please answer all the questions. Thanks so much.
hi ,for one ,that all depends on you as to how long it would take you tol learn the kata,the type of arts that you are doing is very good but it takes a long time to get the next level,cause you must understand that just getting the next belt ,is easy but there is more to it than that you see theres power that go"s with the katas you learn ,you see we as people that do the arts keep in mind the just getting the next belt ,while cool as it may seem like i said the power is not there,cause you blow threw the katas with out learning the true meaning of the arts you have just learned.am in kung-fu and its alot harder for us cause we learn that stepping up to the next level is going to be harder to do ,cause we have to learn that every action has a reaction to what comes to you in combat or just doing the katas,you see if one was worndering how long it takes to get to the next belt ,well like i said before, thats up to you and the teacher most of all .and just training 2 times a week will not do my friend,you see we train every day for 2 or 3 hours a day ,just to make sure we under stand that the moves are right.as for weapons we learn that right away,for control of the mind and the weapons we have .as for learning how long each kata,well that depends on how long the katas are .try to not worry about the next belt ,but learn the meaning of the rank and the power that comes with it ,from the way you sound its as if all you want is to tell everyone that your a much higher belt than before, well time to go am with my friend and we are off to do some things ,take care an don"t worry about the next rank just take your time .see yah
