Wife sprained her ankle and doctors are all booked up. Any advice from anyone in the medical field? Please?
My wife sprained her foot while walking in a hurry at work two days ago and since then my physician has had no openings for an appt. Today for example they closed at 12pm ( Strange ). This is her second time hurting this foot. She previously sprained it about 5 months ago and was treated using the Raise, Ice, Compress, Elevate technique. Her foot isnt swollen but on the top of her foot she has a red circle surrounded by a very faint black blue. She is taking 400 mg of Iniprofen every 6 hours, taking vitamin c, and is rested. Can I use a hot compress yet ? I have been doing ice pack on for 30min and off 30 min. About how long should she rest? I have also been using elastic bandage. Thank you to all who help me, God Bless
Do use the ice for as long as it feels good on the ankle. If she thinks the heat would feel better, then go for it. Can also rotate with heat and ice. (My ankle was so swollen when I sprained it that I left it on continuously). Do be sure the ace wrap is not too tight. Sounds like you are doing everything right and what the doc would tell you to do.......Not sure about the bruise on the top of the foot, and doc would need to discuss ways in which to avoid this in the future. Is it her shoes perhaps that causes ankle weakness?
