What's a good brand of Shirasaya?
I own a few blades, Paul Chen and Musashi mostly. They are practical cutters, but I tend to like the Musashi a little better. I was looking for an affordable shirasaya, but the ones I've seen of Musashi did not look all that ...good. They have good blades, but seem to be kind of flimsy construction and come with a retarded mini Throwing Knife which interferes with drawing/sheathing the blade.
Any thoughts of where to get one? I have looked at trueswords.com, already, though.
A shirasaya is merely a "resting" scabbard for a blade. They are usually made of plain wood and are only for storage of a blade without fittings. It would be unusual to find one without a blade, unless you obtained one from a nihonto dealer. There are generally fitted to the blade in the same way a regular saya is fitted. They never come with "throwing knives." If you are referring to a kozuka then what you are asking for is not a shirasaya.
