How did you get introduced to BJJ or MMA?
Just curious. Here's how I was. I used to be into swimming till 2005. At the time I was in school as a foreign student. Soon it was getting boring and I got into Karate. It was fun but after about a year I felt like I wasn't getting a good workout. Around 6 month into karate I started watching UFC. So I switched karate style to a one that was supposed to be harder. After about 6 more month of that. I started going to an MMA gym and it was a good workout. But it was too far away from my home and I couldn't drive. It was a small town in Canada so there weren't many buses. Anyway, soon I stopped both MMA and karate and went back to swimming. Then I moved to Toronto and after about a month I joined another gym. So here I am two years into my BJJ training.
Now I just focus on wrestling and sub wrestling.
I've pretty much always been into Martial Arts. I first heard about the UFC through martial arts magazines. When I was in high school, probably around 1996, I rented UFC 4 from the video store and got to see guys like Royce Gracie, Keith Hackney, and Dan Severn in action. Since I lived in a little town with no grappling school or wrestling team, I started buying books on the stuff and practicing with friends. Once I graduated I enlisted in the Navy, and the guys in my division did a lot of submission wrestling. There was even a BJJ blue belt. When I got out, I started training grappling/MMA with Mark Hatmaker from time to time, and then probably about 2006 started taking BJJ. I should have an amateur Mma Fight in the next couple of months or so...
