How do you prevent your knuckles from getting rapped during eskrima?

I specialize in fencing, kenjutsu, and other forms of swordplay, and I've been picking up some eskrima specifically for dual-wielding short swords/knives/machetes/whatever-comes-to-hand.
Perhaps the first thing I noticed about eskrima is that ones knuckles and fingers are completely bare and ready to be rapped painfully by your opponent at all times, are there some specific moves or actions that eskrima artists make to counter attack such a nefarious little attack like that?
I never see the pro's wearing gauntlets or anything, so what is it?
Because I specialize in blades, I was wondering specifically if there was an eskrima technique made to address the issue, since I anticipate this to become a real problem when dealing with hilt-less daggers, swords & machetes.

Aaron R, Wrestling God and ISDS pretty much covered what I was planning to say. You will get hit most of the time, so unless you plan on wearing gauntlets all the time, you might as well get used to the idea of getting a busted knuckle. But my former Kali instructor used to tell us that footwork helps, you can go in then out in a flash and use short and tight movements, not swing and hack away with your whole arm behind the attack like a windmill, leaving your whole arm exposed. But this is because his style of Kali is a close quarter style and is more effective up close than at long range. And his parries and blocks basically target the opponent's wrists instead of the stick or blade he's holding.
So the drills he taught teaches you how to enter or attack at an angle and control his arm, retreat at an angle then roll and twist your arm out of the way and convert it into a strike to avoid exposing your wrist to danger. Other than that, you just have to rely on your training, reflex and lots of luck to avoid getting your knuckles beaten up or cut.

here are a couple of links to sites where you can ask the members who are definitely more qualified than me to answer your question.
