American Kenpo Karate...Ed parker?
What knowledge did Ed Parker have to make up American Kenpo Karate?
His style came from william chow who learned from james mitose. both of his seniors were truly great and created an effective chinese/japanese mixup Street Fighting style that came through hawaii. Unfortunately parker took that style and turned it into something wierd, but popular, ad created an empire. parker's stuff deals with a lot of overwhelming your opponent with quick hand strikes. It is extremely innefective against anyone half decent at MA. it makes a lot of assumptions, and unfortunately the principle of hitting your opponent a lot is good however if you are only hitting them with weak strikes, which most parker students that I have run into are extremely weak like in many other Martial Arts where people neglect strength training, then its like you are slapping your attacker a lot right before he comes after you and kicks your ass.
His ideas are great but only when used properly. Unfortunately the majority mess it up because they don't know how to hit hard.
