finding a good Martial Arts school?
I want to get involved with martial arts but i dont know how to find a good school. There used to be a karate school near here but it closed down. Plus to be honest i dont really want to learn the karate style because other styles such as taekwondo and hapkido interest me more. So how would i find a a school and teacher that knows what hes doing?
My best advice would be to meet the instructor. Go with your instinct first.
Avoid the car salesman type. Legitimate masters have too much respect for an art they've invested years and years in mastering to sell it like that.
Basically, you want to avoid the B.S. salesman.
-The guy that guarantees you'll learn - How the hell would he know?
-The guy who tells you he teaches the best, most badass stuff out there - legitimate masters have been around long enough to learn to respect what's going on in other schools as well.
-The guy who tells you he'll teach you secret techniques. That's a load of hoo-haw. It's not about secret techniques - it's about practise.
-The guy who tells you it's going to be easy, because he's got it down to a "system" - again: Practise, practise, practise. This isn't supposed to be easy.
