Do you think i have enough time to get well rounded at Boxing, Judo, and Jiu Jitsu in about 3 years?
I am 14 years old, almost 15, and I'm going into the military after high school.
I am basically proficient in boxing now but i want to get good at Judo and jiu jitsu and get better at boxing.
I also want to apply those skills to doing MMA, do you think I have enough time?
How many arts do you think you will be able to tackle at once. I guarantee, no more than two. Even if you study 2 at once, one of them is going to suffer. Since you are still in High School, heres a different plan for you join your wrestling team, its free, and continue to box in your off season. I did the same thing when I was your age with Wrestling and Fencing during off seasons. After I dropped out I boxed (off and on, which did affect my progress).
Then when you join the military join a dojo. However this will be problematic in its own right. You are going to have to rely on what is in the area and if you are in the middle of the sticks, there might not be much to choose from. Also as you move duty stations you might not be able to continue in the art you start.
If you choose to go the ju-jutsu or judo route, then pick one and study it. In 3 years will probally reach a higher brown belt, at least in my Judo Dojo it takes about 4-5 years to reach Shodan. If they are pushing you through quickly, I would be wary. If you wish to continue with Boxing you will probally have to cut it down to a day or two a week. With reduction in training, it is unlikely you are going to make any great progress with your boxing skills. This is a sacrifice you will have to choose. Your going to have to put a primary focus on one or the other, and it will most likely be the one which you have less familiarity with.
PS NO ONE GETS "GREAT" AT ANY ART IN 3 YEARS, good maybe (dependent on how good id defined), get the basics down maybe (some arts take longer I did 3 years Kung Fu and I can not brag that I have all the basics down), great no
