Is the hogu (body armour) really neccessary?
I love sparring both in judo and in taekwondo, but I hate dressing up for matches in taekwondo. The gear I hate wearing most is the body armour/hogu (for pic see here:http://www.ask.com/wiki/Hogu). I mean, I don't like the groin guard either, but I can see why its needed (obviously!). However, the hogu seems big and bulky and useless? I know, I will get kicked in the stomach if I don't wear it...but then, I always get kicked in ITF matches too (albeit it is only light to medium contact).
My question is, will not wearing the hogu during practice result in broken bones or anything? Is it really neccessary?!
