Foot hurts when kicking Focus Mitts?
Hey there. I've been doing Muay Thai for around 2 months now and recently I've noticed that my foot always hurts when I kick a Focus Mitt. I have no problems with kicking a Thai Pad with my shin but when it comes to kicking a focus mitt, my foot feels like it's gonna break apart. How can I prevent this from happening?.
Are you kicking with the top of your foot or the ball of your foot?
If you're kicking with the top of your foot, it will feel like that for a while. Just try and not kick it so hard when you do, and after a while you can increase your power.
Remember the foot has tons of little bones building it's structure, so they are delicate. The arch of the foot is not meant to handle extreme pressures on the top and as such is weak. You can strengthen it over time, by working out with the top of the foot kicks. There is also a large blood vessel that rolls right over the bridge of the foot and when you kick the mitt with the top of your foot that could be what is causing your pain. There are well known pressure points on the top of the feet, and some do in fact coincide with the bv.
